The Hamlet will administer medication that children need whilst in our care. Staff are not permitted to accept a child or young person to a session if they do not have the required medication with them.

We are committed to supporting the medical needs of all children, including those with long-term conditions, allergies, or complex health needs.

We will safely administer medication as part of your child’s care plan, following robust procedures and in partnership with families.

Important:

For safety reasons, children cannot attend sessions without their required medication. This includes any emergency or daily-use medications listed in their health plan.

What You Need to Do

To help us keep your child safe and well while in our care, please ensure the following:

  • Keep us updated: Inform us of any medication changes and provide a copy of the prescription or consultant’s letter when updates occur.
  • Let us know about any medication your child takes at home—this is important in case emergency treatment is required.
  • Bring all medication in its original packaging with a clear pharmacy label, showing:
    • Child’s name
    • Medication name
    • Dosage and instructions
    • Expiry date
  • Ensure medication is in date and safe to use.
  • Hand all medication directly to the Room Leader upon arrival. They will sign it in and store it securely.
  • Medication administered by staff will be recorded, including:
    • Name of the medicine
    • Time and dose given
    • Staff member administering
    • Observations or follow-up actions, if needed
  • Written consent from a parent or carer is required for all medication or creams to be administered.

Our trained team understands the importance of timely, accurate medication support—especially for children with disabilities who may rely on consistent routines or specific care protocols.
