Children should not attend Preschool if they are unwell.
Health, Illness & Attendance
At The Hamlet, the health, safety, and wellbeing of all children is our priority. We follow guidance from Norfolk Environmental Health and ensure our approach is inclusive and supportive—especially for children with complex health needs or SEND.
Sickness & Diarrhoea
If your child has had sickness or diarrhoea, they must stay home for 48 hours after the last episode.
This helps prevent the spread of illness and ensures your child has time to rest and recover fully before returning to the setting.
Antibiotics
If your child has been prescribed antibiotics for a short-term illness, we kindly ask that they stay home for the first 48 hours of treatment.
- This allows you time to monitor them for any potential side effects or allergic reactions.
- It also gives your child the chance to begin recovering in a calm and familiar environment.
If your child is on long-term antibiotics for an ongoing condition, please speak to a manager so we can support their health needs in line with any medical advice or care plans.
If Your Child Becomes Unwell at Preschool
If your child shows signs of illness during their session, we will contact you immediately to arrange for them to be collected.
We will always prioritise your child’s comfort and care while they are with us.
Infectious Diseases
If your child is diagnosed with an infectious disease or illness (e.g. chickenpox, impetigo), please let us know as soon as possible—especially if this has been confirmed by a GP. This helps us take any necessary precautions and protect vulnerable children in our care.
We understand that children with disabilities may have underlying health conditions or require tailored care when unwell. Please speak to our team if your child has specific needs or a medical plan—we’re here to work with you to keep your child safe and supported.
