We understand that every child develops at their own pace. We are here to support children with their toileting and personal care needs in a way that is respectful, nurturing, and tailored to their individual needs and preferences.
Supporting Independence
We actively encourage children to develop as much independence as possible in toileting and care routines, but we also recognise that some children—particularly those with additional needs—may require extra time, patience, or support.
Our trained staff will:
- Support children with regular toilet reminders and routines
- Offer help where needed with wiping, changing, or handwashing
- Work closely with families on individual care plans or toileting strategies
- Use encouraging language to build children’s confidence and self-esteem
Nappies & Changing
For children who are not yet toilet trained:
- Please supply nappies, wipes, and any creams your child may need unless you have opted to pay our chargeable extra's fee
- Staff will follow your child’s usual routine wherever possible
- Nappy changes are carried out discreetly and hygienically by trained staff, following our safeguarding and infection control policies
- Children are never left in soiled clothing or nappies, and we always maintain their dignity during changes.
Spare Clothes
We ask that all children have a named sets of spare clothes, including underwear and socks, in their bag each day in case of accidents.
If your child requires specific types of clothing or equipment (e.g. pull-ups, toilet seats, change mats), please let us know so we can support them comfortably.
Working in Partnership with Families
We believe that open communication is key. Whether your child is toilet training, regressing due to change, or needs longer-term personal care support, our staff are here to help.
We’ll work with you to:
- Follow consistent routines between home and preschool
- Respect your child’s preferences and needs
- Celebrate progress, no matter how small
All toileting and personal care procedures are carried out in line with our Safeguarding and Health & Safety policies to ensure your child is safe, comfortable, and respected at all times.
If you’d like to discuss your child’s specific toileting or personal care needs, please don’t hesitate to contact our team.
